How Much Does a Hot Air Balloon Ride in Marrakech Cost?
A shared hot air balloon flight in Marrakech costs from 170 € per person booked direct. A private balloon starts around 390 € on the booking platforms and 500 € direct. The seated Royal flight is 650 €. Those are the real numbers, and the gap between them is almost entirely about who is in the basket with you, not about how long or how high you fly.
What follows is the price structure: what you are paying for, what makes one quote cheaper than another, and the three places a headline figure stops being the figure you pay.
What a Marrakech balloon flight actually costs
Prices checked on 23 September 2026. Where an operator publishes in dirhams, we have left it in dirhams rather than converting at a rate that moves.
| What | Price | Where from |
|---|---|---|
| Shared basket, booked direct | 170 € per person | Our Classic Flight, all inclusive |
| Shared basket, local operator | from 800 MAD | Atlas Montgolfière, published rate |
| Shared basket, marketplaces | typically 180–250 € | Viator, GetYourGuide listings |
| Private basket, marketplaces | from 390 € | CheckYeti, private flight with breakfast |
| Private basket, booked direct | 500 € per person | Our Private Flight |
| Shared basket, other direct operators | 130 to 205 € | Rates published on their own sites, 5 Oct 2026: moroccoballooning 130 and 169 €, marrakechballoon 135 to 195 €, adventure-balloon from 205 € |
| Operator pricing in dirhams | 1 400 to 2 500 Dhs | hotairballooninmarrakech, published rates |
| Premium local operator | up to 5 300 MAD | Atlas Montgolfière, top package |
| Seated flight with breakfast in the air | 650 € per person | Our Royal Flight — no direct equivalent in Marrakech |
So where do we sit? In the middle. Ten operators publish prices for Marrakech: two undercut us (130 € and 135 €), several sit above (180, 190, 195, 205 € and up), and the marketplaces run 180 to 250 €. We are not claiming to be the cheapest. We are claiming that the price on the page is the price you pay — transport and breakfast included, no service fee bolted on at checkout. That is the line the comparison actually turns on.
What the price buys, and what it does not
An all-inclusive Marrakech flight, at any of these prices, should contain: hotel pickup and drop-off, tea at the launch site, the safety briefing, 40 to 60 minutes in the air, breakfast after landing, and a flight certificate. If a quote is missing transport or breakfast, it is not cheaper — it is a different product. The full breakdown is in what is included in a Marrakech balloon experience.
Three things are almost never in the price, at any level:
- The onboard video, filmed and sold at the base on the day.
- Tips for the pilot and the ground crew. Not expected, always appreciated.
- The platform service fee, if you book through a marketplace rather than direct.
The three places a price stops being the price
1. The checkout fee
Marketplace listings add a service fee at the final step. You compare a 390 € listing against a 500 € direct price, then pay something in between. Compare final totals, not listing prices.
2. “Private” that is not private
VIP, deluxe and exclusive are marketing words. Private is an operational fact: your group alone in the basket, with a pilot and ground crew assigned to you. A cheaper “VIP” flight is often a smaller shared basket. One question settles it: is anyone else in the basket?
3. Airtime that is not an hour
The honest range in Marrakech is 40 to 60 minutes, and no operator can promise a figure to the minute because it depends on the morning’s wind and on where the balloon can safely land. But a listing that says “one hour” and delivers thirty minutes has sold you something else. Ask for the normal range.
What a morning actually costs your group
Per-person pricing hides the real decision. Here is what the two options cost as a total, at our direct prices.
| Group size | Shared (170 €/person) | Private (500 €/person) | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 people | 340 € | 1 000 € | +660 € |
| 3 people | 510 € | 1 500 € | +990 € |
| 4 people | 680 € | 2 000 € | +1 320 € |
| 6 people | 1 020 € | 3 000 € | +1 980 € |
Note what this does not do: a private balloon is priced per passenger, not as a fixed charter you split between you. The premium grows with the group. Which is why the honest advice is to book private for the occasion — a proposal, a milestone, a company morning — and shared for everything else. We lay out that decision in private versus shared in Marrakech.
Why very cheap flights should worry you
Ballooning has fixed costs that do not compress: a certified envelope and basket with a finite service life, a licensed pilot, a ground crew of several people, a chase vehicle, fuel, and a maintenance programme. A morning’s flying costs what it costs.
When a price falls well below the market, something has been removed. Usually it is the transport, the breakfast, or the airtime. Occasionally it is the size of the basket — more passengers per flight, more flights per balloon. Ask what changed rather than assuming you found an edge.
Does the season change the price?
Not much in Marrakech. What the season changes is the start time and the odds. Winter means a civilised 07:00 pickup and often the clearest air of the year; summer means a 5 a.m. pickup and the coolest hour of a 37 °C day; spring is the windiest season and therefore the most likely to be postponed. The month-by-month take-off times are in why Marrakech balloons fly at dawn.
The practical cost of a cancellation is not money — flights are moved, not lost — it is a morning of your holiday. Which is why you book early in your stay.
Is it worth it?
At 170 € per person for four to five hours, including private transport at both ends and breakfast, a Marrakech balloon flight is not the most expensive thing in the city and it is one of the few that cannot be substituted. You can see the medina another way. You cannot see the plain at first light from 500 metres any other way.
What you are actually buying: the inflation on the ground in the half light, forty to sixty minutes in the air with the Jbilet to the north and the High Atlas to the south, a low pass over villages waking up, and a Berber breakfast under a caidal tent prepared by the women of the douar of Oulad El Garn. Then you are back at your riad by mid-morning.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a hot air balloon ride in Marrakech cost?
From 170 € per person for a shared basket booked direct, all inclusive. Private baskets are 500 € per person direct, around 390 € and up on the marketplaces before fees. The seated Royal flight is 650 €.
Why are some flights so much cheaper?
Because something has been taken out — usually the transport, the breakfast, or the time in the air. Compare the inclusion lists, not the headline figures.
Is the price per person or per basket?
Per person, including for private flights. A private balloon is not a fixed charter you split between you.
Are there hidden costs?
Booked direct, no. Booked through a marketplace, a service fee is added at checkout. On the day, the onboard video and the shop are the only extras, and both are optional.
Do I need to tip the crew?
No. Tipping is not expected in this context, though it is appreciated for a team that has been working since 4 a.m.
Is a hot air balloon ride in Marrakech worth the price?
For four to five hours door to door, with transport and breakfast included, most people say yes. It is also the one experience in Marrakech with no substitute.
Is it cheaper to book on arrival?
Rarely, and it costs you the flexibility that matters most: baskets fill, and if your flight is cancelled for weather you need a spare morning to move it to. Book direct, early in your stay.
